BUTTERFLY ALI 5 MINUTES
‘5 Minutes’ is Butterfly Ali’s best track yet. Playful piano gives way to truly addictive funk; Ali’s (real name Titus Makin) voice is impossible not to like, jumping from smooth singing to energetic, flamboyant vocalisations like it’s nothing. His influences, such as Marvin Gaye and CeeLo Green, shine through in the energy of his band and his vocal performance. You’re transported into an era of grooving and shaking, but certain well-placed moments remind you that this track could just as easily welcome a verse from the likes of Anderson .Paak or Kendrick Lamar. Makin explains that the track “feels to me like the song we all need to just jam out to after a hard day of work and struggles. It's that let your hair down and get funky kind of song.” We welcome more of the same in the future. -Dan Peeke
